Join

Launch in three steps

  1. Install Freelancer

    Any vanilla Freelancer client can join. We recommend Freelancer: HD Edition. It fixes the game's bugs, sharpens the graphics and lists every online server for you.

  2. Find the server

    HD Edition shows Zoner Universe in the server list. On a plain install, open your Freelancer shortcut's properties and add this to the end of the Target field:

    -server.zoneruniverse.com:2302

  3. Launch and type /help

    Create a character and you start in Liberty like any new freelancer. Type /help in chat to see the commands the server adds, from a shared bank to duels for credits.

Every jump gate and jump hole that a standard server keeps locked works here, and the systems behind them are full.

  • AlaskaThrough the New York gate. The Liberty Navy fights the Nomads, with capital ships on both sides.
  • TohokuThrough the jump holes in Chugoku and Hokkaido. Blood Dragons and the Kusari Naval Forces fly there.
  • The two Unknown systemsThrough Omicron Alpha and Omicron Gamma. The Order and the Nomads are at war, and Planet Primus and Planet Gammu give the hardest missions in the game.
  • The story's hidden systemsOmicron Beta with the Nomad lair, Omicron Minor with Planet Toledo, and Omicron Major with the Dyson sphere. The only way in is aboard the Battleship Osiris.

Who you'll meet out there

  • Capital ships on patrolThe four house navies patrol their home systems with battleships, cruisers, destroyers and gunboats, escorted by fighters. The Nomads and The Order bring theirs to Alaska, the Unknown systems and Omicron Minor. They're the toughest NPCs in the game, so pick your fights. They drop cargo when they go down.
  • Police lightsPolice fighters of all four houses flash red and blue. Rheinland Military fighters carry green lights.
  • Liberty Security ForceThe LSF patrols around Planet Manhattan and Fort Bush, alongside the Liberty Police.

The Battleship Osiris

Ride the Osiris into the story systems

Dock with the Osiris and launch, and you arrive docked on it at its next stop. It is the only way into the hidden systems from the single-player campaign: Omicron Beta with the Nomad lair, Omicron Minor with Planet Toledo, and Omicron Major with the Dyson sphere.

Salvage
Wrecks in the Dyson sphere's outer trench hold some of the best equipment in the game. Most lie within reach of a weapons platform.
Persistence
What you destroy or loot there stays that way until the server restarts.

Missions against the Nomads, which the original game never offers. Clear every Nomad ship at the waypoint, or destroy a Nomad installation and the weapons platforms guarding it. Mission installations here keep their turrets, so expect return fire.

  1. Omicron Minor is now a front line. The Order keeps a supply yard at Planet Toledo, and the Nomads patrol from the Alien Jump Gate.
  2. Missions against the Nomads can send you after a Nomad installation and its weapons platforms.
  3. Order and Nomad capital ships now carry names, such as the Mt. Whitney and the Rio Grande.
  4. 45 fixes for the game's own bugs, from FLSharp.
  5. Benford Station, Baxter Research Station and Mining Station Glorious can be docked with, and the Osiris flies its six-stop loop.
  6. Every jump gate and jump hole unlocked. The Liberty Navy and the Nomads now fight in Alaska.
  7. Mission pay raised 30%, and Class 10 heavy fighter shields can be looted.
